Clay Pot DIY Graduation Party Décor

Are you celebrating a 2023 graduate with a big get-together this season? Commemorating this incredible achievement can take some time and effort to pull together, so I like keeping my graduation décor simple yet effective. I found these cute little terra-cotta pots and wooden squares at Dollar Tree to make the cutest graduation cap decorations that can be used as graduation décor to put anywhere, and as food markers on the table.

Supplies for This Graduation Cap Decoration:

• Small Terra Cotta Pots (3.5-in., they come in packs of 2)
• Wooden Squares 
• Black Paint 
• Sponge Brush
• Yellow Yarn 
• Alphabet Stickers 
• Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue Sticks 

Follow These Steps:

1. Paint the pot and a wooden square black. Allow to dry completely.
2. Hot glue the wooden square to the bottom of the pot.
3. To create the tassel, cut 8 pieces of yarn to 5-in. long and another one to 10-in. long.
4. Tie the long piece in the middle of the short ones.
5. Fold the bunch of short yarn pieces in half, then tie another piece of yarn around the top as shown below. Wrap the yarn around the knot a few more times, then secure with hot glue and trim away the excess yarn.
6. Here’s how the finished tassel should look:
7. Glue the tassel to the top of the wood square, and then take the yarn and make several knots on top of each other. Then hot glue it to the top covering the spot where you glued the tassel.
8. If you’d like to use these as a food marker, simply add letter stickers or a vinyl decal. I spelled out “Sugar Cookies” with letter stickers.
9. This looks so cute as a decoration too!
